10 By Ten

Last Saturday I got the chance to volunteer my makeup skills for a play workshop called 10 By Ten.
If you had seen my preview on instagram where I said "I got to beat up an 11 year old for work" this was it!

Its a group of local drama people who looked at a whole mess load of local plays, picked 10 of them, then paired them with 10 local directors. All plays had to be 10 minutes long.

The play I worked on was "Cerebrospinalis" written by my friend Andrew Paulsen ad directed by my good friend, and major film supporter Michael Sobota .(See my post about working with Andrew on the film "Schism")

"Cerebrospinalis" is a short play that has a anti-bullying theme and touches on some really hard issues when it comes to being a gay adolescent. The mother, played by Nancy Freeborn, was done so well that I almost cried, definitely had some tears welling up.

My only job was to do some quick stage makeup on the young boy actor and make it readable for stage.
While I was working, a number of other actors who don't know me mentioned that the bruises looked so real it was "creepy" which I think is a awesome compliment.

one in the dark to see how it would look on stage, and one when the lights were turned up.

10 by Ten is going to become an annual event, so if you like to act, write, or direct you can submit on their website : http://www.10by10.org/
