Halloween Vacation

This week I have been so busy with planning my wedding(this saturday!!) and kids, and house and then my company that I work for now Halloween Alley, flew me out to their annual dealer meeting in Edmonton.

I was so excited to go, I have only been there once on a sea cadet band trip to play a giant military band performance so I didn't get to do anything, kinda same deal I missed out on the mall and going to visit the wonderful Sweet Carousel Corsetry. But it was worth it! I had so much fun learning about the company, how to run and market my store, meeting everyone and of course  ALL THE AWESOME HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AND MAKEUP!!!

I was so excited I did me and my sisters nails for the trip, she is my partner in running this store.
weird coke cans tell the future: hers told her to share with her sister. mine told me to share with my best friend.

I used the new ChinaGlaze texture to do my halloween accent nails, one a pumpkin and the other candy corn(which I actually hate, they taste like rocks).

I used the OPI acrylic nail base coat for my acrylic nails, and just now as I'm taking off my polish it did a decent job of not dying the nails black, I still will have to file the darker top layer off though because my next nails are planned to be light in colour for the wedding.

The texture worked out well for the pumpkin nail, it gave it that extra touch to the art making it feel more like a pumpkin. The candy corn because I had to layer other polishes on top turned out a mess in my opinion, from far it looks okay: but up close meh.

On Nikki's toes I did a little ghost and "BOO!" on her big toes and used a glow in the dark polish as a top coat.

On the first day we had how to used their vampire teeth and realistic tattoos.  The teeth are pretty cool because they are custom molded teeth. They used the heat activated silica beads that I used to make my orc teeth with. The tattoos are awesome, they stay on for days and look realistic. the edges don't peel right away or show.

I can't just be a nice girl eh? I grabbed the larger teeth meant for men and of course, this tattoo was perfect for here. (sorry for the offensive pic for those who did get offended)

The second day to break up the talk-y seminars we did 2 makeup workshops, one was face painting and the other was how to apply the appliances that we sell. Both my areas of expertise!(though I guess that makes me a bad listener because I jump ahead and just do my own thing because I know how to use the product

The appliance workshop was fun, we used a wound stack, gel and liquid blood and a bullet hole appliance.  All made by Wookie fx. I really like the gel blood we got because its just far superior to anything I have ever used before. It's super dark, still a bit runny and a little goes a loooooonnnggg way. It says fresh of hours(I was wearing a long skirt and I had to pull it to the side when sitting down otherwise it would stick to the blood).  Keep an eye out in the near future for what I have planned for these bullet hole applicances, it won't be bullet holes I can tell you that ;)
Damn high heels, always falling down and breaking my knee caps.

This was the rest of the time. Awesome props, they brought a awesome hearse to meet us for the fashion show, awesome cattered food, and of course the fashion show which I posted pics on my facebook.

I can't wait. Watch out in the next 2 months for freakshow grand openings, makeup workshops, costume workshops and much more!!

Product Review : Merle Norman Nude Inner Eyeliner and OPI Glitter Off

Last week and this week I hinted at that I acquired some new product to try out.

First from my instagram I tried out the new Merle Norman inner eyeliner in nude. I had gone in looking for a new lip pencil plus in a lighter nude than what I already have and this was suggested because its a mechanical liner.

  • I normally hate mechanical liners, they seem to dry out faster because they don't have the wood around keeping in the moisture, but this one so far is super creamy.
  • It went along my waterline really well. I didn't have to go back and forth to get that colour going through.
  • Its more natural looking rather than a white.

The only con was offering this as a replacement for a lipstick, it will be awesome for blanking out my lip line to draw a new one on but its so small it would take too much to
fill my lips.

a clearer view of the makeup

The Next Product was OPI's glitter off base coat. It works as a stretchy base coat that you can peel off from underneath so you don't have to struggle filing and using a ton of nail polish remover to get those sparkles off.

I also had wanted to try doing some butterfly nail art, so I used some different glitters(small pieces, large pieces, thick and thinner ones) on my toes. Once again when I first try stuff, I shouldn't be watching a movie at the same time(this time it was the Watchmen).
So that's the outcome with the OPI glitter off.

  • The glitter off goes on white but dries clear.
  • when you do peel it off it doesn't pull your nail with it.
  • most pieces come off in big chunks, not that messy.

The only con is that it takes a while to dry, probably a extra minute.

Happy Holidays!

Well with 'tis the season... for me to try my new prosthetics I got!

I love the Hobbit and everything in the realm of middle earth. Kyle and I are going to be seeing the Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug for our second time tonight.

The theme of this year's Christmas is definitely Elves: Santa's elves, elves from middle earth, elves in general!

I had gotten these from a website after halloween so I wanted to use them finally. the tips are backless so they can fit to almost any ear type, and aren't heavy at all.
I added earrings to match my colour scheme(white and red). I was really surprised that they didn't rip, but the foam is pretty thick, and moveable. You can't even see the hole up close either after I took them out. Very happy I didn't ruin them.
For my makeup I used a water based cream white for an under glow.
then used my powder mineral foundation from Merle Norman for over top and blend it really well.
I used red eye shaddow to match my eyebrows to my hair.

My eyes I used white eyeliner around the outer corners. I used a base of light gold and mixed in a shimmery brown and a medium light grey. I smudged the back eyeliner only on the outer side of my eye, and only used mascara on the outside edge.
My lips I had whited out before and made a bit smaller, using my lip pencil plus "hussy" from Merle Norman. Making the lips smaller I find gives you a cuter but more serious look.

The headpiece is actually just a necklace I had and I used bobby pins on the ends to run the chain through my hair.

for my nails I got this new OPI polisj by Mariah Caery called "Pure" it is a 18k white gold and silver flake top coat. I was under the impression when I got it that it was a matte solid but it turned out it looks like expensive snow flakes so I'm okay with it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful christmas!

Getting Ready for Xmas

By which I mean I really want to watch "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

This isn't a full nail art tribute or anything, but just the inspiration for why I did these nails. I also wanted to try a different technique, but it failed.

I first did a base coat of Seporah "What's a Tire Jack?" and on the ring finger did my base coat of Julep's "Kate".
Now the technique I wanted to try was making stripes using tape. I didn't end up taking a pic because the lines were weird and not straight and the black Silk Line nail art polish got underneath. The photo below is of the other hand where I hand bombed the lines and they turned out way better.

I put the OPI "Man With the Golden Gun" gold flake top coat over top later on because I just like it so much over black.

I think for my next nails, and for  our staff xmas parties I will do a deep red with  a gold touch.

Pics and VLOGs to come!

Seeing Double

Last night I was going through my giant box of nail polish and noticed I had a lot of the same colours. I don't think I've ever bought doubles so I checked. Nope different companies = same colour or at least to my eyes(wasn't wearing my glasses either).
So I gathered up the ones that were doubles, and some triples and put them on side by side to see the differences. Another blogger I follow the polishaholic does this from time to time as well when she gets new swatches.

This is the one that started me off on this quest: I swore that I already owned this black sparkle nail polish but the OPI "Metallic 4 Life" is from the Nicki Minaj, and I know that I had never bought from that collection before. So when I came home I looked and yes I had a very similar one from Quo called "Throw the Confetti". In the bottles they look really similar but as you can see they are very different on the nail. 1. "Metallic 4 Life" has a sheer black pigment and smaller sparkles compared to 2. "Throw the Confetti", which has a clear polish and bigger sparkles.

The next one I always thought were the same, and are actually made by the same company(Nicole is owned by OPI) are 1. Nicole "Star of the Party" and 2. OPI "Overexposed in South Beach".  1 is way more metallic and a bit of a darker fuschia then 2.

So this set is triplets but not really: I know the 3 Milani "Pink Out Loud" isn't the same colour as it has a iridescent sheer to it but the pink looked the same to me. 2 is Julep "Nicey" and 1. is Essie "Secret Story".  1 goes on a lot thinner and lighter then the 2. But the 3 Milani is the close to the same pink as a 1 Essie.

1 is Julep "Morgan" and 2 is OPI " OPI ink". I actually think these ones are the same. In the bottle the OPI 2 looks darker but on the nail they are the same.

1 is Sally Hansen "Sea Breeze" and 2 is Julep "Daphne". I have to mention again that the brush that comes with Sally Hansen polishes are way better and easier to manage, especially when you have shaky, arthritic hands. The 2 Julep is actually lighter then the 1 "Sea Breeze".

So now that I know I only actually have 1 double, I feel better knowing I haven't wasted money.

Warrior Royalty Colouring

Today I was going through my Pintrest photos looking for inspiration. I found two photos, side by side surprisingly of a nice purple combination. One was nail art and one was some elaborate makeup. I've been itching to do both so here they are! I have also been itching to wear my new wig(which isn't itchy at all).

First I did my nails, I used OPI's "Overexposed in South Beach" and "Rising Star", with a plain black nail art pen.

To do the leopard print I put my base coat, then flat coat of the "Rising Star" on. I used the black nail art pen to make little dots that cluster together. I then used my fine tip nail art brush to take the "Overexposed in South Beach" to fill in the dots to make the art nail match the rest.

I also did my eyes, the theme from pintrest was called "Japanese Warrior inspired". I love the white swipe along the water line. I haven't ever really played with the contours of my waterline, usually just stick to the plain black dramatic eye. Or add to the ends for the gothic look.
I first started out with highlighting my eye with a white shadow. I went over my crease of my lid with first a light pink, then a dark pink/purple colour. I went over the main part of my lid with a matte black, then added a sparkle black. I did the same layering under my eye a bit I then took some ivory cream eye shadow and a small angled brush to create the white line and brought it up a bit along my water line. The last main step was to use liquid black eyeliner to follow along the white and finish off with black mascara.
I love mixing dark pinks, purples and blacks. And I love black and white, which I also decided to add my new white and black wig that I got from Karen from Dolls with Toys so it would match the water line art.

So hope you like my look for tonight(the Rock Truck/Bottom Rockers/Speedway Detectives show @  the Black Pirates Pub)
Keep a eye out on ShawTV my new VLOGS should be out soon!

Airy Pink Polka Dots!

So I had ordered this really cute nail dryer from Avon. It's meant for princess parties but the air flow on it is really good and its super cute.

Seeing as I really wanted to try it out, I needed to paint my nails. So I painted them to match!

I used OPI "A-rose From the Dead" mini, OPI "Pink-a-doodle" and a Julep "Daphne". I also used my new Sephora nail art tool, using the larger doter end.

Thanks again to Elysha's Avon for the nail dryer!

Skyfall 18k Gold Nails

This week I started taking LCN gel nails classes to upgrade my talents. While I was there the store was offering a 10% off deal to students, so I picked up a OPI exclusive polish: The Man With the Golden Gun.
It came out for the new James Bond movie "Skyfall". I love James Bond, ever since I was little, it was the first action movies I ever saw and the first set of novels I read.

So this nail polish is the polish version of Goldschlager, real 18k gold flake in the clear high gloss top coat. Above is just one coat which I think is a nice touch without layering it on like mad.  This is also my first try in over a year of giving myself gel nails, I think I did a pretty good job!

Now I feel like I'm super rich, kinda like when I could drink Goldschlager haha

Going Down To The Deep

I am very excited for tomorrow: I am shooting all 4 spots for September's ShawTV show! I have been dealing with my hair all week, re-dying it Vampire Red(Manic Panic brand), getting my extensions sewn in and then I looked down and realized from dying my hair my fingernails were stained red..but not in a even way.

Then today I spent all day thinking about different gradients. So I did a sparkle gradient. I used Sephora's Black and OPI's "Excuse Moi".

I really like the way this turned out, I didn't do anything special to make it gradient. No sponges or special brushes. I just made sure I wiped off the brush pretty well, and dabbed it onto the top of my nail, unevenly. Then I added a second thicker coat of it at the very tip of the nail. These were my results:
So keep a eye on channel 7 Shawtv
if you live in Northwestern Ontario Starting in September

I Wear My Heart On My... Ring Finger

The other day I bought the "Nothin’ Mousie ’bout It." heart glitter polish. I was feeling extra girlie and thought I don't have that many interesting glitter polishes minus different coloured ones.

The glitter itself is nice and thick, gives a good covering in 1 coat and is very fine. Getting the hearts out is a bit harder and then you kinda gotta move them around if you have O.C.D like me.  I didn't put a top coat on top just wanted to try it but I'm sure with one, they would be 10x more glittery.
I can't wait to use this on valentine's day or on my niece, I think she'd love it!

did I mention I have purple hair now?

ooo today my new Maven box came in, till next time
