Playing Dress Up

Over the last few weeks I have just been going full out dressing up to leave the house, for no actual reason, maybe just one is due to my shopping addiction of dresses.
So here's just a quick what I've been doing with my style lately, which if you follow me on my instagram or facebook then you've already seen them.

The day I had to go do a wedding cake tasting and make reno plans at home depot, I wanted to wear a new dress(not shown) which is a retro style halter dress that has a vintage circus print on it. I paired my Johnny Cash cardigan with it.
I have actually never done my hair up all in rolls before, and I was totally out of hairspray. I think it turned out really good.
All neutral makeup minus my "Pink to be" Lime Crime lipstick.
Which usually I find it a bit hard to wear cause its sooo pink but it works good with this retro, neutral look.

Then yesterday I decided that I wanted to be Freddy Krueger. I went out to friend's business' downtown to ask for shag prizes.
I wore my new wig from pleasure wigs(though I always end up cutting the bangs).
For coverage surprisingly all I used was some Merle Norman loose mineral powder and some matte cover girl mouse foundation on my lips: as I don't have a super nude lipstick (well I do now.. keep an eye out for my review) I used a dark brown, black, darkest purple and the darkest red eye shaddows to blend out on the outer corner.
The socks are from halloween town, I found the sweater, fedora and the little vest harness at value village. And of course I didn't wear out my Freddy glove, but it is a numbered special edition replica.
I also used the Marc Jacob's silver nail polish I grabbed from Sephora.
The necklace is from Hot Topic(6 years ago)

and Unfortunately I wasn't with anyone who could of taken a pic of me with my Elm Street sign: yes I live on Elm street!

Another dress (up) that I did was my new R2D2 dress and (you can't see it in the pic) I wore with it my galaxy leggings. Lipstick is "Mint to be" by Lime Crime

Last but not least, for the drag show of my friend Fantasia 10 year anniversary of doing drag, I dressed up with inspiration from Sharron Needles though everyone thought I was Lady Gaga. Both are acceptable.

Lady Gaga :World Icon. not a drag queen(technically)
Sharon Needles: World Champion Drag queen
Either way Needles or Gagging on Gaga: people at the show wanted to take pics with me, which was a first. I was very flattered by that. It probably also helped that other than the other Drag Queens I was the only one super dressed up.

trying out some new pintrest nail art

So I know I haven't done a post with any nail art in a long time so I was looking at my pinterest  to find something to try.

I found this and wanted to try something like it.
I used my new nail art polishes from Avon,  I used "Cupid" for the base and "passionate plum" for the outline. I really liked using the nail art brushes from Avon, they are nicely pointed and easy to move along.
the Cupid was lighter going on as it seems in the bottle and the plum was perfect, only needed the one coat.
didn't use this color

You can see getting that thin line isn't as easy as it looks, mine turned out way wider. I still really like it though, reminds me of thick linned tattoos or thick lining in old comic books.

looking for that same shade

I have a bright pink makeup forever lipstick Rouge Artist Intense #36. I am almost at a nub left.  So I popped over to a Shopper's Drug Mart Beauty Bar and took a look.

I very rarely buy drug store cosmetics, but that day I was in a rush and wanted to try and find something not too expensive  I found a rack of neon orange lipstick tubes and thought, there will probably be a close match in how bright I like this pink.

I tried to match and found one that seemed to be lighter and one that seemed to be darker.

They turned out to be Maybelline #865 fuchsia flash and #900 hot plum.

so the first was the 865(top left), I like how bright it is but it is a little bit of a lighter pink.
the 900(top right) was the one that looks darker but actually wasn't as strong and bold of a pink that I thought it would be.
the bottom left is the makeup forever 36 rouge.

so I think the 865 fuschia flash is my pick for as close as I can get from this Maybelline line.

Grandi's Rose Oil

In memory of my beloved Grandmother(who passed away last week) I would like to do a whole post about roses. My Grandi loved roses, growing them, and their smell. Her perfumes were rose based and every beauty product that she could get in rose scent she would.

She grew Theresa Bugnet roses  in her garden.

When I was on a vegan kick and wasn't wearing much makeup. I still used pure rose oil as perfume  I really liked that smell and still add rose water to my baths to this day.

Currently I am using Avon's rose & peach show gel. I really like using it, and especially right now in the dry weather its helping a lot.

She also liked pink lipsticks, really she liked pink everything, my bathroom and kitchen are both pink and white. Which is fine for a long time the pink and white bathroom was Hello Kitty Themed.

The two pink lipsticks that are my favorite ones are Cover Girl's "Fabulous Fuschia" and makeup forever "rouge artist intense 36".
I love matching the makeup forever lipstick with a bright green eye shadow for my party look!

I will be updating  from my holiday looks and a hair tutorial soon this month!

Seeing Double

Last night I was going through my giant box of nail polish and noticed I had a lot of the same colours. I don't think I've ever bought doubles so I checked. Nope different companies = same colour or at least to my eyes(wasn't wearing my glasses either).
So I gathered up the ones that were doubles, and some triples and put them on side by side to see the differences. Another blogger I follow the polishaholic does this from time to time as well when she gets new swatches.

This is the one that started me off on this quest: I swore that I already owned this black sparkle nail polish but the OPI "Metallic 4 Life" is from the Nicki Minaj, and I know that I had never bought from that collection before. So when I came home I looked and yes I had a very similar one from Quo called "Throw the Confetti". In the bottles they look really similar but as you can see they are very different on the nail. 1. "Metallic 4 Life" has a sheer black pigment and smaller sparkles compared to 2. "Throw the Confetti", which has a clear polish and bigger sparkles.

The next one I always thought were the same, and are actually made by the same company(Nicole is owned by OPI) are 1. Nicole "Star of the Party" and 2. OPI "Overexposed in South Beach".  1 is way more metallic and a bit of a darker fuschia then 2.

So this set is triplets but not really: I know the 3 Milani "Pink Out Loud" isn't the same colour as it has a iridescent sheer to it but the pink looked the same to me. 2 is Julep "Nicey" and 1. is Essie "Secret Story".  1 goes on a lot thinner and lighter then the 2. But the 3 Milani is the close to the same pink as a 1 Essie.

1 is Julep "Morgan" and 2 is OPI " OPI ink". I actually think these ones are the same. In the bottle the OPI 2 looks darker but on the nail they are the same.

1 is Sally Hansen "Sea Breeze" and 2 is Julep "Daphne". I have to mention again that the brush that comes with Sally Hansen polishes are way better and easier to manage, especially when you have shaky, arthritic hands. The 2 Julep is actually lighter then the 1 "Sea Breeze".

So now that I know I only actually have 1 double, I feel better knowing I haven't wasted money.

Warrior Royalty Colouring

Today I was going through my Pintrest photos looking for inspiration. I found two photos, side by side surprisingly of a nice purple combination. One was nail art and one was some elaborate makeup. I've been itching to do both so here they are! I have also been itching to wear my new wig(which isn't itchy at all).

First I did my nails, I used OPI's "Overexposed in South Beach" and "Rising Star", with a plain black nail art pen.

To do the leopard print I put my base coat, then flat coat of the "Rising Star" on. I used the black nail art pen to make little dots that cluster together. I then used my fine tip nail art brush to take the "Overexposed in South Beach" to fill in the dots to make the art nail match the rest.

I also did my eyes, the theme from pintrest was called "Japanese Warrior inspired". I love the white swipe along the water line. I haven't ever really played with the contours of my waterline, usually just stick to the plain black dramatic eye. Or add to the ends for the gothic look.
I first started out with highlighting my eye with a white shadow. I went over my crease of my lid with first a light pink, then a dark pink/purple colour. I went over the main part of my lid with a matte black, then added a sparkle black. I did the same layering under my eye a bit I then took some ivory cream eye shadow and a small angled brush to create the white line and brought it up a bit along my water line. The last main step was to use liquid black eyeliner to follow along the white and finish off with black mascara.
I love mixing dark pinks, purples and blacks. And I love black and white, which I also decided to add my new white and black wig that I got from Karen from Dolls with Toys so it would match the water line art.

So hope you like my look for tonight(the Rock Truck/Bottom Rockers/Speedway Detectives show @  the Black Pirates Pub)

Airy Pink Polka Dots!

So I had ordered this really cute nail dryer from Avon. It's meant for princess parties but the air flow on it is really good and its super cute.

Seeing as I really wanted to try it out, I needed to paint my nails. So I painted them to match!

I used OPI "A-rose From the Dead" mini, OPI "Pink-a-doodle" and a Julep "Daphne". I also used my new Sephora nail art tool, using the larger doter end.

Thanks again to Elysha's Avon for the nail dryer!

Going Down To The Deep

I am very excited for tomorrow: I am shooting all 4 spots for September's ShawTV show! I have been dealing with my hair all week, re-dying it Vampire Red(Manic Panic brand), getting my extensions sewn in and then I looked down and realized from dying my hair my fingernails were stained red..but not in a even way.

Then today I spent all day thinking about different gradients. So I did a sparkle gradient. I used Sephora's Black and OPI's "Excuse Moi".

I really like the way this turned out, I didn't do anything special to make it gradient. No sponges or special brushes. I just made sure I wiped off the brush pretty well, and dabbed it onto the top of my nail, unevenly. Then I added a second thicker coat of it at the very tip of the nail. These were my results:
So keep a eye on channel 7 Shawtv
if you live in Northwestern Ontario Starting in September

Last Julep Maven Box

This will be my last post about the Julep Maven Box. I wanted to try a win 150 nail polishes but I didn't and I am finding that I am getting similar colours and not enough neat ones so yeah I'm done.
So in this month's Julep Box, I got pixie sticks(which I can't have so that sucks), vanilla mint lip balm that has SPF in it and my 3 new colours; Sash, Sandra and Morgan.

Sasha, the salmon pink colour isn't really my deal but will look nice for a pastel splatter idea I have. It is a nice matte colour.
Sandra is a metallic fuchsia pink. I liked to wear bright pinks when I had red hair, but now that I have dark purple I think I will be looking at more purples and blues for my nails.
That is always the question though when it comes to trying to figure out colours: to match or clash? I usually stay on my body matching and then clash with my clothes. But then I guess I do change it up and clash my makeup and nails with my hair and have a matching outfit.  What do you like to do?
And speaking of matching, Morgan was my favourite colour as it goes great with my dark purple hair!

The vanilla mint lip balm is super nice, I wouldn't normally think that vanilla and mint would go well but they are both subtle enough that the flavours compliment each other.

If any one knows of other good makeup trail boxes please leave a comment!

I Wear My Heart On My... Ring Finger

The other day I bought the "Nothin’ Mousie ’bout It." heart glitter polish. I was feeling extra girlie and thought I don't have that many interesting glitter polishes minus different coloured ones.

The glitter itself is nice and thick, gives a good covering in 1 coat and is very fine. Getting the hearts out is a bit harder and then you kinda gotta move them around if you have O.C.D like me.  I didn't put a top coat on top just wanted to try it but I'm sure with one, they would be 10x more glittery.
I can't wait to use this on valentine's day or on my niece, I think she'd love it!

did I mention I have purple hair now?

ooo today my new Maven box came in, till next time
